What EU Wants
Here’s what EU wants us to sign:
1. EU & Srbija will intensify political cooperation, so that they could speed up Serbia’s progress towards EU, including EU membership candidate status.
2. EU will continue to maintain relations between EU citizens and Serbia’s citizens, particularly among students. In order to make travel easier, EU will start a dialogue with Serbia about making the visa regime more liberal.
3. EU will make ugrent stept towards increasing the number of Serbian students studying in EU in Erasmus Mundus programme.
4. EU and Serbia will sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement as soon as the neccessary measures are taken. EU will try to support Serbia’s efforts to strongen democracy, law, to help the political, economical and institutional stability in Serbia, which will make political relations, economical and international cooperation and Serbia’s integration into EU possible.
5. EU will set up a work group that will analyze ways to achieve faster progress.
6. EU and Serbia will keep in close touch in order to continue this proccess.
Do you see Kosovo being mentioned there?
Here’s what Kostunica sees:
1. EU will take away Kosovo from Serbia. Ha-ha!
Here’s what Kostunica’s man, Marko Jaksic says:
This would only boost Albanian separatist in taking away the prehistoric part of Serbian territory.
It’s pretty clear that we have a madman as prime minister now.

Dick Marty’s Kosovo report – Uniting Serbs and Albanians In Shame
Kostunica does not see anything beyond Kosovo-Metohija. He views the world black and white thinking that any sort of approachment to the EU would automatically mean the loss of KiM. I don’t get the logics of refusing an functional agreement from which he can also benefit. Especially when the EU stresses out that the status of KiM and the EU integration of Serbia are two different issues with no relation to each other. The time is rife for new elections, really… because this man holds us hostages of his obsolete views on the world.
On the other hand, the EU has such a bad sense of timing. Couldn’t they wait for this agreement to be signed and ratified and then to decide to send their cop mission to KiM?
OK, first off, I don’t think Serbia should join the EU. But since you take it as a given that membership is desirable, surely Serbia will get better deal ако се мало нећка? We’re seeing that these days, with those EUcrats falling over themselves to promise the earth to our gullible voters (you guys
). What do you say to that?
“Here’s what Kostunica sees: 1. EU will take away Kosovo from Serbia. Ha-ha!”
Isn’t he right? Aren’t the US and the EU doing exactly that? Didn’t the Slovenians tacitly accept those documents are authentic? Am I missing something?
“Especially when the EU stresses out that the status of KiM and the EU integration of Serbia are two different issues with no relation to each other”
Come on, man, this is bullshit… They’re sending EULEX to Kosovo and Metohia to set up the institutions of an “independent” state, which they will control. One day these two things will come into focus even for the blind: Kosovo and Serbia will both be recognised as states by the EU, and Serbia would have to recognise Kosovo to join the EU. How can these two things NOT be connected? On the one hand, we’ll take a minority in your state and set them up as an independent state, and on the other we will drip feed you crumbs (you’ll have to wait 20 years for the milk and honey)? I mean, switch on your brains guys, try to think critically about these things…
The fact is, the only reason this agreement was made (and could be refused) is because Koštunica is a statesman who values his own country and the citizens of Serbia above any ideology or utopian ideal, whether that be communism or the EU (“Europe” and “European values” LOL). And Serbia is not just Belgrade. I even heard it includes some place called Kosovo
Interested in what you think, so don’t pounce on the nationalist…show some tolerance for minorities
“But since you take it as a given that membership is desirable…”
I’m not taking it as a given, all the polls show that majority of citizens are for Serbia in EU. Plus, last elections showed that more than 50 percent supported proeuropean candidate. Kostunica is alone in his decision if you don’t count support from SPS and SRS.
Koštunica is insane.
The only thing he cares about is power and the way he’ll go down in history.
He’s not a “statesman”, just an autistic kafana politicologist/philosopher.
Who is he helping by acting this way and rejecting EU? Serbs in Kosovo? I don’t think so. Serbs from Vojvodina/Šumadija/Sandžak… ? Not really.
Then who?
K. stirs creativity these days (so many Facebook groups devoted to him…). One more example – e-mail address with one’s opinion about K: http://www.kostunicajezlo.org/
“Kostunica is alone in his decision if you don’t count support from SPS and SRS.” So not alone at all, since on this issue he has the support of 144 out of 250 members of parliament.
“Koštunica is insane.” What is the point of such rhetoric? What makes it any different to people like you being called traitors or whatever? In both cases the aim (concious or not) is to utterly delegitimise an opposing political view, which is an attempt to stifle any meaningful discussion.
“The only thing he cares about…the way he’ll go down in history.” Isn’t that a good thing? To want historians to write to reflect positively on his historical role?
“Who is he helping by acting this way and rejecting EU? Serbs in Kosovo? I don’t think so. Serbs from Vojvodina/Šumadija/Sandžak… ? Not really.” Do you think we should join the EU at any price? Even if you are pro-EU membership, at one point the price becomes too high, doesn’t it? Or should Serbia accept anything as long as the carrot is dangled close enough in front of our faces?
The “economist” talks about the Serbian political situation in this way: “The Government could also break apart. That would mean either that the Radicals join a new Government, which is unlikely, or that a fresh general election is held – in which Mr Kostunica, whose party is trailing in opinion polls, could be consigned to history”.
I don’t know if this scenario gonna be the final outcome, but I hope it.
It’s high time for Serbs to get rid of him.
Eu behaviour in front of Serbia has always been full of contaddictions, and too often unfair, but joining Eu reamains the best option for Serbia (any alternative?).
If Kostunica prefers Putin why doesn’t he go to Russia?
(Where he could find good company)
Sorry, those are just some thoughts of a Serbia-lover (мало луд и заљубљен)
