We Are Sailing
Churches. They’re all around us, they all look alike. See one, seen them all. Big bulky buildings with crosses on top. Some are slightly rounded, some more square-ish, but once you see one of them, you immediately know it’s a place where you can go pray.
This is where Slavko Božić, priest from Banovo Brdo comes in. His idea of how a new church at Ada Ciganlija should look like is not very conventional:

Yes, it’s a boat – but! If you inspect it closely, you’ll see that it’s actually a church! A churchboat! Or boatchurch. The plan is to put the church next to the Stounhendz, (homage to Stonehenge) at sports and leisure park Ada Ciganlija’s entrance. If you are wondering what Stounhendz looks like, here it is:

Mr Bozic’s idea is ahead of a rocky road, judging by the comments in news sites, because the commenting believers seem furious when confronted with this news. Mostly because 1) there are enough churches in Belgrade as it is, 2) it would cost half a million Euros to build it and 3) it’s a boatchurch!
I, on the other hand, think this is a marvelous idea. Yes, there are enough churches as it is, and yes, it’s expensive. But look at it – it’s a boatchurch! On dry land! Right next to the Stonehenge. You simply have to love it. Hopefully this post and the reaction we get from you, my dear readers, will contribute to the realization of this splendid idea.

It’s the 21st century. We’re still building churches? really?
The church looks great, and I love the idea.. but not the location.
I already feel that they are stuffing religion down our throats here in Belgrade, and church floating next to half naked belgraders would really be too much.
I don’t think they’ll move it, not far at least – one does not spend half a mil on a whim – so I’m guessing they are sure that church will be ‘launched’ there..
Will sea-level rise get this far up the Danube?
1. there are more than enough churches in Belgrade already…
2. ... but this idea is interesting. but i can not see head of Serbian church to agree on building such a “interesting” church! they are too conservative with their 19th century thinking!
3. ... but don’t put it at entrance the island!! that’s idiotic!
Wow, a combination of a Viking dragon ship and a medieval Scandinavian stave church
Very nice idea, but elsewhere! Maybe somewhere near the estuary?
For once, there’s already one church nearby, a church of St. George on Banovo Brdo, right above Ada, and one on Cukaricka Padina.
Then, there is some point in not putting the church to be surrounded by the half-naked passersby.
And the last but not the least, I object ANY object that would block the view over the lake
I like the idea, but they should make it an actual boat in among the restaurants in Ušće.
Perfect! Now, they need to invent this same thing for minority religions, so when shit hits the fan, pull the anchor and set sails!
