Vukov spomenik underground station
Vukov spomenik metro station is Belgrade’s modest answer to Pjongjang’s
Ryugyong hotel, only in the opposite direction. Instead of building something
which should become useful in height like North Koreans did, we dug an insanely
deep tube station hopeing it will become a focus point in a future megalopolis
traffic system. On the way we found out that the earth under Belgrade is full of various obstacles which
would make it very expensive to make a metro. Combine that with wars, sanctions
and corruption and you get the type of situation we have today – only one
station in the centre, with something metro-like which comes and goes as it
pleases. If you are really lucky, you just may get the chance to see it while
you’re down there!
