Vegetarian in Belgrade? No problem

Can a vegetarian survive in Belgrade, Serbia? According to this blog post it seems that it is possible. Another blogger has kindly suggested several great options for vegetarians and their friends, together with veg restaurants addresses:
Slasta, (Bulevar kralja Aleksandra 17), Joy of Heart (Svetogorska 18), Fenix (Palmoticeva 5) and the old veg place by the name of “Priroda” in Batutova street is now closed (thanks to Marko for letting us know in the comments).

As a non-vegetarian, I am not much help, but I would also add that falafels in Narodnog Fronta (new street name: Kraljice Natalije) nr ~70 are pretty good. Also, be careful with burek, even though it can be made with cheese, mushrooms and other non-meaty foods, sometimes its baked on animal fat.

Thanks to Karl Haudbourg for finding these posts!

Update: here’s another good post about vegetarian experiences and options in Belgrade.

Priroda was a restaurant in Batutova street, but it was closed several months ago and yet another usual coffee place moved in… :(

Joy of Heart is in Svetogorska…

  2. Viktor says:

Thanks for the corrections, I’ll change the post. Shame about that “Priroda” place, you would think that they have enough customers and not so much competition to keep the place running…

Palmotićeva right near Kosovska, a place called Fenix or something like that, they have healthy/vegetarian indian food among other healthy/veggie things, I like it a lot even though I’m not vegetarian

All the Sushi places could be considered vegetarian enough, also great for pescaterians.

Thanks for linking to my blogpost! :o )

I’ll add the comment right away to my post to let people know about Priroda restaurant.

  5. Viktor says:

Milos, thanks for the tip, I added that one too. Unfortunately, it seems that it’s closed during the summer. It’s open during the summer, read the next comment.
You can find more health food/veg stores on this link: http://www.happycow.net/europe/serbia/belgrade/

  6. Milos says:

I work right near Fenix and pass by it every day, its definitely not closed, happycow has wrong info

  7. Viktor says:

    Great if it’s open!

Merkat, you have a great blog with some useful info for Belgrade visitors, keep it up!

  8. merkat says:

Thank you Victor. Comments like yours keep me going on with my blog.

Q: So, is Priroda closed or not? Or the discussion was about Fenix? I’m all confused now…

  9. Owen says:

    Sushi vegetarians?

  10. Owen says:

Merkat’s food section is mouth-watering and she clearly distinguishes between meat-eaters, fish-eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Thanks, and thanks for raising the the issue, Viktor.

  11. merkat says:

Wow, Owen, thank you! I did not know that I have succeeded to make such precise distinction, since this topic is so new to me. And considering that I am a carnivore, as all meerkats are LOL, I was just praying to God that I have made the right choice of food according to my research.

  12. Viktor says:

Merkat, Priroda is closed, but the Fenix is open.

Owen, this topic is a long overdue, as many others. But we’ll get there eventually :)

  13. Owen says:

Still looking forward to Belgrade bread, eventually.

  14. Molly says:
