Serbian Presidential Elections 2008 (free beer inside*)

Ok people.
The choice in 2008 Serbian presidential elections is pretty simple – On Sunday, 3rd of February, each citizen of Serbia will choose between only two candidates – Tadic or Nikolic. Or they can choose not to vote at all. That’s also a choice.
It’ not like we’re new to this kind of black/white situation here and it’s getting boring.
But, let’s try and make it more interesting. We’ll organize a small competition here – who ever comes closer to the official results in the comments wins a beer in Belgrade. Losers can join in, of course.
We are only interested in how much the candidates will win, so the percentage of null votes will not be taken into consideration at this competition.
In order to get as close to the final result as possible, please place your bets in the following way:
- Candidate X: 34.76%
- Candidate Y: 63.21%
Your first comment counts as your final bet, so think carefully.
I’ll turn off the captcha antispam control to make the voting here easier. Polls and comments will be closed exactly at Sunday, February the 3rd at 20:00. So hurry up, those commenting first have bigger chances of winning the grand 0.5 liter prize.
*beer is free only if you win.

If you followed the Belgrade twitter than you already know that Tadic won.
Results: 50.5 Tadic, 47.9 Nikolic, and the whole 2.6 percent of null-votes… I have to calculate now who is the winner in our little betting competition when i take away the null-votes.
Any good mathematicians out there are gladly invited to help.

So his second mandate lasts 5 years, until 2013. And Serbia is expected to join the EU in 2014. But could it join earlier, say 2012?
Well, after a few days calculations, I’ve concluded I’m mathematically challenged, and since there are not final results yet, and CeSID’s website shows some inaccuracies, I’ve decided that all those who placed a bet that Tadic will win – will get a beer.
Winners, expect a mail in the next few days in order to arrange the award ceremony in one of the local kafanas, cafes, bars or pubs. Losers will be also invited to join in once the date and place have been set.

Alan, I don’t think we can join any earlier than 2015/2016. actually. that is, if we sign the agreement this year, and if we try to be as effective in joining the EU at least as Croatia is. If we are to be as effective as Macedonia is, for example, we could end up joining in 2020.
