As the coach and the players stated, this is a historical moment in Serbian sports. They deserve all the honors and we from the Belgrade 2.0 congratulate them for this great achievement.

Yes I watched most of the games. They are really a great bunch.
They will each receive something like 25,000 Euros from the Serbian government plus a state pension (ok by the time they are pensioners that will be nothing but hey).
Its such a great break for them – people will love them when they return. The odd advertising contract, people will stop to congratulate them in public transport and so on. Better still, no mindless hooligans to spoil the enjoyment for any of us
So the members of the sports teams are still from Serbia AND Montenegro?
This was the last time that the team played under this name since the International Volleyball Federation didn’t want just yet to adopt the new name (until next year), but as far as I know, none of the players came from Montenegro.

Anybody watching coverage of the championships will notice that the camera director had a ‘roving eye’ – particularly homing in on certain girls.
By the way they received a great reception when they returned. Thousands of people turned out as the Belgrade government gave them the same special treatment the mens basketball side got in the past.
This will give a huge boost to female sport. And lets not forget the mens volleyball team who are currently also doing well at the mens world championship – also taking place in Japan.
The men are talented but sometimes one gets the feeling that they are playing ‘within’ themselves. Perhaps this example (from watching one got the impression the women gave it everything they had) from the women will inspire them…
