Vukov spomenik underground station

Vukov spomenik metro station is Belgrade's modest answer to Pjongjang's Ryugyong hotel, only in the opposite direction. Instead of building something which should become useful in height like North Koreans did, we dug an insanely deep tube station hopeing it will become a focus point in a future megalopolis traffic system. On the way we found out that the earth under Belgrade is full of various obstacles which would make it very expensive to make a metro. Combine that with wars, sanctions and corruption and you get the type of situation we have today - only one station in the centre, with something metro-like which comes and goes as it pleases. If you are really lucky, you just may get the chance to see it while you're down there!

What sort of obstacles - geological? or architectural/engineering? archaeological? or other phenomena?

Mostly geological, like underground waters, but there are rumors that some previously built 'secret' underground escape tunnels are also a problem. I honestly don't know if this is true, but it would be a great thing to explore somehow.

Isn't there also the issue of the swampy ground outside the area of the center? Due to the confluence of the two rivers there? Maybe that was just if they extended the lines out.
I remember my cousin telling me something about that after I complained about breathing in some guys wickedly unwashed armpit on a hot day, on a crowded bus to the center from Novi Beo.
