Bakeries, pastry and cake shops

Try to find a street without a bakery. After you fail, why not enjoy some of the pastry specialities in one of them. Burek, if you are more hungry, something lighter if you are less. Some bakeries sell the sweet stuff too - try to find zito sa slagom - wheat porridge with cream, an original Serbian-style sweet. Other things you can enjoy in a Serbian bakery, beside the typical range of products you can find in any world bakery: burek in several versions - with meat, cheese, spinat, potato, and even a pizza-burek in certain places. One of the best places to consume burek is in a Svetogorska street, in a bakery appropriately named "Sarajevo". It's open 24h, so it's a safe bet after leaving a club late at night and feeling hungry. For the sweet stuff, head on to the bottom of Prizrenska street, look for a cake shop Specijal. Try tulumbas, baklavas, krempitas and shamptas. Also the best ice cream in town. Wash it down with a healthy dose of boza beverage.
