Avala Mountain

Avala mountain is exactly 511 meters high, which means it’s just enough for it to be cosidered a mountain (anything above 500 meters will do). The real treat is to climb the mountain and than enjoy the scenery at the top by the Monument to the Unknown Hero, another work by Ivan Mestrovic, the same guy who designed the Victor monument.
See also the new tower being built there - we are building it not because we really need it but just because we can! The original height of the original tower was 666 feet (202 meters) – can we do better this time? One of the main purposes of the tower was to show that you are near Belgrade when you were returning to the city from the countryside by car. Now we are not so sure anymore how close to Belgrade we are and we have to observe the traffic signs instead.
