Today while surfing on the net, I found one article that really brought me joy. It is from B92, so enjoy:

More and more tourists in Serbia

BELGRADE—Compared to the same time last year, this year there has been an increase of three percent in tourists from abroad in Serbia.

Also, the influx of foreign currency for the first four months of 2006 increased by 12 percent, according to the Serbian Tourism Organisation, which added that there are 30 foreign tourism agencies in Serbia currently.

In the past several years, an increase in visits from foreign tourists to Serbia has been evident. Besides Belgrade, visitors have shown the most interest in manifestations such as Exit and the festival in Guča, as well as the carnival in Vrnjačka Banja. The greatest numbers of tourists come from Russia, Spain and Great Britain.

However, the Tourism Organisation admits that there are still many shortcomings in Serbian tourism. Good marketing abroad is still lacking, and the work of reception agencies needs to be improved. There is also a need for better cooperation between the Organisation and the local tourism organisations which have a lot of work to do on their own as well, said that Organisation’s President Miodrag Popović.

Neighboring countries are already doing a good job of advertising on international television stations and the Serbian Tourism Organisation stated that commercials promoting Serbia as a tourist attraction will be showing up on such television stations shortly.

As the occasional tourist to Serbia myself, I can tell you that the shortcoming that really gets me is that communist era rule that you have to visit a police station to log your visit when satying with friends or family, and have to go again before you leave!
