I call this post "Saturday afternoon meat" in reference to Pengovsky's great "Monday morning meat" series.

David shows us how the Balkan people are preparing food for winter, (and here when I say food, I mean pig) - be warned though, pictures are very graphic. I remember when I was a kid at a countryside hanging around a pigslaughter, I didn't mind all that blood and guts, in fact it was very interesting to look at. Now I don't know if it would be so charming to observe... but I do still love a good pig roast.

Students' hostel "King Aleksander"

Situated 20 minutes by foot from Belgrade city centre, this hostel offers its facilities in summer only, from July 1st to September 1st.

Three black catz hostel

Great location, nice price (from 9 EUR), free internet, but very very small, only 10 dormitory beds (6+4). Make sure to make a reservation online since this is one of the most popular hostels in Belgrade.

Youth hostel "Lipovicka suma"

Located outside Belgrade (some 15 km from centre – so you’ll lose A LOT of time getting to and returning from the city center), but with unbeatable price, and open all year round.

"Dorcol" and "Belgrade Eye" hostels

Excellent locations: one is in a lively part of Belgrade, Dorcol, with lots of cafes, and the other one, Belgrade Eye, is in the very city center too. Price: from 14 EUR.

Students boarding home "Studentski grad"

Also known as “Studenjak” – another Belgrade students home that offers hostel accommodation during summer. Bed in a single room is 14, in a double 12 and in a triple room 11 EUR. It’s located at Novi Beograd, so in heavy traffic you’ll need around half an hour to reach city center. This boarding home offers all its rooms in summer, but its open during the whole year with lowered capacity.

Yachting Club Hostel "Kej"

Tired of same old hostels at dry land? Try something different – boat turned hostel, price per bed – 10€ per night, located at Dunavski kej, with a view to Kalemegdan fortress.

Hostel Belgrade

Central Station Hostel

Hostel is, as the name says, conviniently set right accross the street from Belgrade’s railway and bus station so you don’t have to walk a long way with your 50 kilos backpack. Prices go from 12 to 20 euros depending on the room size.

AFF-terr hostel

Two hostels actually – one at posh area of Obilicev Venac, nr.8 to be more precise, and other at Palmoticeva street 9, still very central. Prices go from 12 euros and you can make reservations at this address: infos@belgradeinternationalhostel.com

Star Hostel

They are experienced hosteliers, have 17 beds and are in the very center of Belgrade.

Semlin hostel

This one is located in the old and nice part of Zemun, an old Austro-Hungarian town at the edge of Belgrade – some 20 mins by bus from city center. You can read more about Zemun and the hostel on their website: Semlin hostel

Tash-Inn hostel (Taš-Inn hostel)

The hostel is easy to get to by foot, from any spot of the downtown. It is surrounded by 8 universities, around 100 clubs and restaurants, and is located 50 meters from the Tasmajdan Sport Center (pool, gym. children playground).

Uni Hostel

It’s located very very centrally – you will be staying accross the street from Serbian Parliament building actually. Hostel is new, so promotional room prices go from 7 to 12 EUR.

Arkabarka hostel on water

Belgrade just got richer for an interesting hostel concept – located on New Belgrade side, with a view towards Kalemegdan fortress, the ArkaBarka hostel is situated on – water! Ocasional cultural events and parties are organized. Definetely recommended!
