A small gesture of support to Japanese people from Belgrade – several hundred people gathered at the Republic Square, dressed in white and red clothes to form a Japanese flag.

Serbian people generally have a lot of gratitude towards Japan, country that donated more than 200 million Euros to Serbia in the last decade only. Now it’s time for Serbia to help Japan, no matter how modest that help might be because of the economic situation here.

I must have just missed this event by a day. This is my first visit to Belgrade/Serbia, but I have received some overwhelming welcome here, elderly running up and trying to tell me not to give up despite the quake, in Serbian – I’ll never forget this.

Thank you. Thank you so much.

In 1982 I had visited Belgrad for a while in my journey for paticipating for Esperanto World Congress.

Then I met a lot of Serbian people and also a lot of other part of old “Yugoslavia” through media of Esperanto language, and I got unforgetable friendness for the people. So, I know how sad is your memory of the war after then.

I deeply express my thanks to all Serbian people to encourage Japanese people and I’m happy to have ocasion with you to have a sympathy to those, who are suffering and in sadness past and now, including me and you.

@Marija, I agree with you about harsh propaganda that comes from Demoncratic regime in Belgrade. Your links are proven fact about brainwashing through controlled medias. Here’s the link from independent source and a professional brief report directly from “Belgrade for Japan”. Hope that Serbia will have deserved democracy and freedom in time. We all admire and respect Japanese people and their well known strenght that comes from traditional solid roots. God bless Japan!!
