iPhone officially in Serbia – rumor

iPhone 4 Bumper: Recessed Headphone Jack

This rumor about iPhone coming to Serbia at an official retailer (mobile operator) has been around since 2008, but it seems this time it’s for real. Even though a lot of people in Serbia already have iPhones, none of them were bought at an official retailer in Serbia itself—those are all unlocked, jailbreaked phones and were all paid a bit more exactly because of that.

This time, the rumor says that Telenor Srbija will be the official operator and the sales will start in 2011. Telenor recently introduced its mobile internet data plan, and since it’s biggest package of this kind of all our mobile carriers, it also helps the rumor spread.

Camping out for the iPhone

Reasons for Apple avoiding Serbia have been unclear so far, with the most often reason cited being a small market. It’s interesting that you can buy an unlocked, official iPhone in Croatia, Macedonia and even Montenegro, but not in Serbia even though it’s maybe even bigger market than at least two of these countries.
