JAT to change name to “Air Serbia” or “Serbian Airlines” – suggest a better one

by Viktor on May 26, 2009

B92 reports about JAT’s decision to change their name from JAT Airways to “Air Serbia” or “Serbian Airlines”.

Suggest a better name (if you can think of one) in the comments below.

As much as it seems logical to do so from one side, it is kind of weird for them to change their name now, after they decided to stick to it in 2003, even after the reason for the “J” in the name ceased to exist, citing “brand name recognition” as the main reason. So now, after continuing to build the brand for six years on, they decide to change it?

Anyway, the point of the post is to come up with something more imaginative than “Air Serbia” for the company’s name. Post your suggestion for the new name JAT should consider in the comments.

what a shame, that’s the end of so many wonderful jokes about the acronym JAT! Joke About Time, Jamais A Temps, etc…

Jonathan May 26, 2009 at 6:38 pm

I must say that apart from having ancient planes and dire food (those sandwiches!), my experiences with JAT have been pretty good.

Good flying (defines as gentle take-offs and landings), generally on time, and forgiving when there have been problems.

The name should be “Serbian Airlines” in my opinion.

If they want to have brand recognition, stick with JAT, but as a name, not an acronym. I mean people accepted Wizz Air after all.

Hey, as long as it’s not Jizz Air…

My sugestion is Serbiair with “Serbi” and part of “a” in red and the other of “a” and “ir” in blue. But I don’t know how to pronounce that! :-s

Ofcourse, they could return to “Aeroput” – that’s cool retro name.

Serbiair May 28, 2009 at 2:19 am

My vote goes to “Serbiair” too, nice name :)

Danilo May 28, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Slavair?

you’ve got “slav” “slava” and “air”

Marko May 28, 2009 at 2:30 pm

@Danilo:

Well, “slav” is very similar to “slave”...

Air Serbia sounds good to me. Let’s stop being “creative” in a typically gypsy way – and adopt a healthy, normal name like Air Serbia. And replace ALL current JAT stewardesses with healthy, normal girls not older than 25. Some of the JAT “stewardesses”, grannies in leather coats with 80s hairdos, are a disgrace to our race.

Oh my god, if they change Jat i think i’ll stop flying with them!! what a shame, i mean, JAT is my favourite airline, Air Serbia sounds so cheap! Plz don’t change a thing!! (except those flight attendants if you insist on changing something:)

ieishah June 6, 2009 at 1:11 am

zoran, i was with you until the ‘not older than 25’ bit. seriously? when the plane door opens mid-flight because you had an adolescent in charge of locking it, you might wish ‘granny’ (or at least someone old enough to know their *ss from their elbow) were in charge of flight safety.

Owen June 8, 2009 at 12:00 am

I guess they’ve ruled out EasyJAT.

Marko June 22, 2009 at 1:06 am

@Milos: Teško da će to moći, jer zvezda neće skoro u Evropu! :-p

I think that the new airline should be called Serbian Airways, its classy and with the flag and 2 headed eagle ion the tail it will look ace!

Sto se mene tice, treba da se zove Serbian Airways, to je najbolje i najlepse da se razume po svetu i bas super zvuci. Na repu da nam bude zastava i grb izgleda ce extra!!!

VEX August 8, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Serbia Airways…

Serbia Airways …... Thank You!

LETI BRE is my favourite AHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA

Aleksandar Filipov September 6, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Serbian Airways (Classy)

Just follow what Emirates did and we will have success.

We have to start flying not only Serbs but rather make it an international carrier rather than a “Jump Jet” from major airports to Tesla.

Cheers.

It should have changed the name a long time ago, but unfortunately we’re late again, as always.

Here are a few ideas I had several years ago for the name of a Serbian airline.

Trebalo je da promeni ime odavno, ali nažalost kao i u svemu, kasnimo.

Ja sam već pre x godina imao neke ideje za ime srpske avio kompanije, pa evo par:

SerbiAir (već pomenuto gore / already mentioned)
BEX / BEA (Balkan Express Airlines)
ALS (Aerolinije Srbije)
SAL (Serbian Airlines, takođe pomenuto / also mentioned)
TSA TransSerbia Airlines
AeroS

Balkan Air (appeal to a larger region)

There is a wide-open opportunity for a budget airline to strive in Serbia. The demand is there, can’t believe no one is swooping in and giving the public what they want.

Kopajući po starim sveskama naleteo sam na još jedno ime: SERBIANA (Serbia National Airways)...

I vote for “Serbian Airlines”@!
