After B92 ran a story on it, I’ve come to conclusion that this has got to be one of the least visible monuments in the world, which is even more accented by the fact that it’s not exactly small, and that it’s located in a busy street. It’s as if it’s fitted into a street scenery so well that it became invisible over the years.
If you’ve been to Belgrade, or live there, you’ve probably passed the Terazije monument to the five Belgraders who were hanged at that spot for joining in the resistance against the Nazi in 1941. But it’s most likely that you don’t even know about it, even though it’s right there on one of the busier intersections, on the corner of Terazije and Nikola Pasic square:

Again, I can’t find a better picture on the net, and because I’m not in Belgrade I can’t take one myself. If you’re going through Terazije often, I’m sure you recognize it now nevertheless.

Wow, I’ve been passing by here millions of times and to be honest never reflected upon this monument!
Incredible… Well have to check it out next time and then I’ll def make a noise about it! =)
Ditto, I have passed by it and wondered what it was, I didnt even think it was a monument, there is no sign or anything, thanks for the enlightenment.
Yeah, I’ve passed this countless times and never noticed it.
In fact, I saw this on the news and that very evening I was walking past, and I did not notice it. Once across the road I remembered, turned round and there it was!
I’m telling you folks, it’s invisible.
I’ve also heard that some people think it represents the central point of the city – but officially, it’s that little pyramid in Knez Mihailova.that represents “the center”.
Btw, there was a sign but it got stolen (bronze, probably melted and sold jut like it happens with sewer caps.
I passed by over there a million of times although I’ve never seen it..
Shame on me!
Far be it from me to comment on things that seem invisible from Belgrade.
Hello, I just wanted to say congratuations for this really interesting blog and for your refreshing points of view. It is helping me a lot in my job (I am travelling and writing around the Balkans) and thought some encouragement is never bad. Will remember the meaning of the monument when I am in Belgrade next week.
Best regards
Pilar
