For those of you who don’t know, Stormfront is a forum that attracts a great number of neo-nazis, racists and ‘white nationalists’. Being that it is the biggest forum of that kind, it has a great number of members from these areas, and it is mysterious (and sad) that Serbia has its own separate sub-forum, together with other much bigger countries such as USA, Great Britain, Spain, Australia and Germany, to name a few.
Stormfront has often been targeted in Serbian media, most notably on two occassions.
The first time this website caught the eye of Serban public was in 2005 when a user asked other users to give him the names of all the people of Jewish descent in Serbia they can think of so that he could make a list. Media responded quickly and calls for shutting down the website could be heard, but nothing could be done, since the servers of the site are in the U.S. – and since the website didn’t break any U.S. laws, Serbia could not do anything else than complain. The list is still there to this very day, and is updated with new names every once in a while.
Second time when Stormfront hit the headlines was when several members of the forum formed and promoted a National-socialist group ‘Nacionalni stroj’ that later crashed into Anti-fascist conference in Novi Sad in 2006. Stormfront was used as a place where they could organize, exchange nazi-propaganda texts and, in short, encourage one another to comit such acts.
Most of the gang members were arrested and are currently in prison.
Again, nothing could be done about the website, because of the protection SF has under US law, so you can still read the statute and the ideas of the organization on the forum.
It is really a mystery for me where these people get their ideas from, coming from a country with such distinctly anti-fascist past, such as Serbia. Some would say that most of them are kids and that i should not take this so seriously. Maybe, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are no other countries from the region with their own sub-forum on SF.
The latest ‘action’ Serbian stormfronters are preparing is to commemorate those who died during the NATO-bombing in 1999 by gathering at the Republic square at the 24th of March, the day that bombing started 8 years ago. Somehow i don’t find this kind of gathering appropriate for that day.

Have to say how I find it kind of sweet that those right wing nationalists who rail against the West enjoy joining up with neo-facist westerners.
I’d also like to ask those patriots why they imitate Western culture – skinhead, western fashion that goes with it on the one hand and on the other reject those values. Of course many of them are kids and dont actually have much clue about anything.
You know its not the principled nationalists that I have a problem with – well I mean one can argue reasonably and have a good idea what their opinions are but its the confused sick lost types who use some political philosophy like some kind of medcine when they should seek professional help.
Give me a long haired Draza follower who always goes on about the King and Cetniks or indeed give me a Titoist who claims the benevolent dictator was God.

How about just for one day you post here a story about something good to do with the Serbian people. That means not picking up some miniscule minority to write about — of which there are many more such nutcases in the U.S. and all over Europe — but finding something genuinely interesting and positive about Serbs. Just, you know, once in a blue moon. Or does it go completely against the grain to stop helping to continue the denigration of your own people? You notice I said once in a while, not every day necessarily, it would be good to have a positive story. Try hard.
You might find then that people like me are less offended by the tone of this blog and you might therefore find people like me less offensive.

Many people do not know that the term “Nazi” means “National Socialist German Workers’ Party.” Members of the horrid group did not call themselves Nazis. In that sense, there was no Nazi Party. They also did not call themselves Fascists. They called themselves socialists, just as their name indicates.

Freedom of speech is a powerful natural right and one that government and special interests throughout history have sought to limit and even ban.
But since it is a natural right, we must protect it. Allow freedom of speech to go forth unhindered and do what is in your power to make freedom of speech a positive enterprise in and for society that can be passed from generation to generation.
Obviously, there always will be some who seek to abuse this natural right and others that will seek to “unburden” us of this natural right as a result. Understand, they are both wrong.
Yet if I we have to choose, let’s have free speech unhindered in all it’s awesome power and glory and deal including those who abuse it rather than sacrifice it to authoritarianism.. from those who seek to “protect” us from free speech. These people are even more dangerous imho because they start us down that slippery slope of criminalizing/limiting words and thoughts. Their only excuse is they do it for all the “right” reasons of course. But there’s nothing right about it after they get done.
