Applied Nostalgia
Recent visit to Yahti.com reminded me of a great exhibition opened in Belgrade on 14th of September in Progres Gallery – Primenjena nostalgija, Applied nostalgia in English and Nostalgia Aplicada in Portuguese. For those of you who can’t make it to the exibition en vivo in Belgrade or Lisboa, there is a great website with online exhibition. The concept behind is really interesting – an artist from Belgrade and an artist from the capitol city of the country presiding EU at the given moment – this time it’s Lisboa, Portugal – are on a mission to make as many photographs of colegue’s hometown that remind them of their own hometown as possible in only seven days (I hope this last sentence doesn’t make sense only if you are me). Go ahead and check it out – I found some of the photos brilliant. It is only pity that the website doesn’t also offer the option to look at the photos without knowing where they were taken, like the real exhibition – that would make it even more interesting I think, and if anybody in charge of it is reading this, please consider this option in the future.
Also, when I visited Lisboa couple of years ago, I found some similarities with Belgrade – vibrant people and night life most of all, and this feeling of carefuly maintained neglect at certain places. Photographers Dragoljub Zemurovic and Fernando Veludo managed to capture the similarities perfectly.
Next year it’s Slovenia’s turn, and I believe that Ljubljana also has a lot of potential to look like Belgrade in the eyes of a good photographere, and vice versa.
If you need some more info, Dejan Stankovic blogged about it in Serbian and Felipa Queiroz in Portugues long before I did.
