Breaking news: Kosovo parliament has unilaterally declared the independence of Kosovo. The newly founded state of Kosovo separated from Serbia in a sudden and surprising turn of events, right after the United Nations decided not to wait for Serbian parliamentary elections before reaching the decision and giving its recommendation about the status of Kosovo. UN envoy Marti Ahtisaari’s report was handed over to the UN officials who, after examining it, decided that the level of standards in the region was “satisfactory”. Without further delay, the Kosovo parliament held an ‘urgent’ session to announce this decision by the UN and proclaimed independence right after, while Serb representatives left the session at this point.
Albanian majority at Kosovo is reported to be celebrating on the streets with car-honking, flag-waveing and gun-shooting in the air.
Serbian and other minorities at Kosovo destinies are at this point unknown, as their safety can not be guaranteed if they leave their homes at this point, even though there are numerous UNMIK patrols on the streets trying to perserve the peace and order.
The state of Serbia expressed its ‘shock and disbelief’ with this decision and sent a urgent protest note to the UN condemning their as well as Kosovo parliament’s decision. Serbia officials also said they will stop all diplomatic relations with countries who admit the Kosovo to be an independent and sovereign state, and it has already pulled its ambassadors from US and UK, who did just that.—
Ok, the ‘joke’ is lame, i know, since the Belgian public TV already did it but i couldn’t resist it really. Since Belgians did it for a reason, and that is to start a debate, i thought it would be useful to do the same in our case, since no politicians here (or in Kosovo as far as i know) never discuss what will happen if/when Kosovo becomes independent. And when i say ‘what will happen’ i refer to the Serbian and other minorities. There are certified fears that this move would cause massive Serb exodus/emmigration from Kosovo to Serbia, and i wonder if Serbia really is capable of giving help to those who may need it. This is the worst case scenario and i’m afraid we are not making any plans to handle it.

Damn it! Don’t do that! I just woke up and haven’t had coffee yet!
Viktor, you gave me a heart attack.
A nice joke, hehehe. I like it.
Cheers
Before it clicked that this was a “joke,” I braced myself for the inevitable, because inevitable it is since nobody is doing anything to stop it. It will be a travesty when it does happen, probably sometime in January or February. When exactly are your elections anyway? Look for this same kind of announcement the day after. It’s only the Americans protecting Tadic and his ilk, who are so cooperative with them, that is holding the K-Albanians back. Once the elections are over they’ll be chomping at the bit and nothing will stop them. This is a deplorable and unforgivable situation.
OK, you got me too! I actually stoped reading to call my boy who thought I had lost my mind. No…no..wait (he reads this blog too) I’ll read you what it says.
Yea, ok…I’m red in the face already! We both shared a good laugh…him more at me though! In fact, it was a laugh I needed. I needed it alot actually!
Thanks…
On a more serious note, though, I worry about the day this may be written as truth…
John
You got me too. I suppose it worked so well because the day you describe is coming very soon, and will probably unfold similarly to the way you described it.
Nice one Victor!!!
You got me too.
I dont think that this will unfold in such a way or as fast as other bloggers commented. If it was so easy, then why did the West wait 8 years to do that?
I think that this will drag on and on until the West manages to cut the deal with Russia.
As to the question Victor posed, what will we do if that happens, I think that there will not be a big flow of refugees from Kosovo and Metohija to Serbia, but I think that they will cluster in North Mitrovica. The EU (since EU is taking over), will have a big problem to convince Serbs in Kosovo that they should participate in the new albanian country. Belgrade will ofcourse not accept the independance, and North Mitrovica will be linked to Belgrade. So the regions in Kosovo that are inhabited by Serbs, will most likely in the end proclaim their independance from the new alabanian state. Actually nothing new, than the situation is today, maybe just worse for the Serbs in Kosovo. And in the end we will have a new Cyprus type of conflict in the Balkans.
Then I suppose this will bring a lot of anger to the Serbs in Bosnia and Montenegro. So there could be possible aspirations to break away from those countries with the theory and alabanian philosphy of “ the will of the people” , by the Serbian people living outside of Serbia.
I think it will be a mess, but as i said, it apparently is not so easy just for albanians in Kosovo to proclaim independance and the story to be over.
Sorry if i really scared anyone, it really wasn’t my intention – but now when i look at it, it does seem convincing. Somehow i thought that everybody was in on the ‘Flanders joke‘ done by Belgians already so i supposed that this one was obvious too.
I hope that there will not be rioting and refugees if this happens, but a serious state should have a plan for every situation, including this ‘worst case scenario‘. Do not forget that this could happen at winter time, in January or February which makes things even worse when it comes to refugees.
But when i think about it, we don’t even have the plan if Kosovo doesn’t get the green light to become independent.
Well, this may make me some enemies but, I’ll be fighting with my boy. He has already stated if another war breaks out there is nothing I can do to stop him from fighting in it. I guess the only option I have is to join him and fight right along side him. Seriously!
I don’t think the refugee problem will occur right off the bat unless hostilities break out. Human nature is going tell these potential refugees it would be wiser to remain in place for the time being…again, this is if things remain peaceful.
I make this promise here to you though, if the “worst-case-cenario” happens…I’ll stop what I’m doing no matter what it is and where I’m at to go there to help in any way I can…even if it means just documenting things.

I was surprised, thinking that it could actually be true, and that the Albanian province of Kosovo would have finally become independent. But it is not true, yet, still the formal independence accompanied by a formal recognition of it from the United Nations as a whole and individually from democratic conscious nations and regimes around the globe, has not taken place yet. I believe that the day of independence is not going to be late and that the independence that is a reality in Kosovo will be formally recognised the next couple of weeks by the international community. I hope that the Kosovo Serbs will accept all the wrong doings of the past on their Albanian country men, and work to reconsaliate. If they choose to divide Mitrovica and unite the Serb minority of Kosovo with Serbia, the same will happen with the Albanian minority in Serbia bordering with Kosovo. This will unite with Kosovo. This is perhaps not only the easiest solution which will mean that between the Albanians and the Serbs will remain a high sense of high hatred mood not only for the near feature but for centuries to come, but also the worse due to its negative influence in the region. No mater how match this two nations want to stay apart, the fact is that they occupy neighbouring territory and their good regional relations are the most vital element needed for their well being and prosperous future. I believe it is impossible that the Albanian population in Kosovo increased dramatically in the last 80 years making it the majority as the government of Serbia claims by basing their argument on politically modified documents from the time, which were specifically set to change the real picture of the population makeover of Kosovo. We should finally awake and recognise the Albanian rite, ignored since 1912, when this Albanian inhabited territory should have been returned to its legitimate mother country, “Albania”, after we had liberated it from the ottomans. But we choose contrary to the will of the Serbian people to instead become ourselves the new occupiers of this Albanian region. This is what we, as Serbs did wrong and should make up for it now. It is also immoral for us to still want to occupy this forigne country based on our untrue and disgusting historical scenario to whom we address the problem we have with the province being independent. This is why the democratic world does not recognise our rite on Kosovo. That is because we never had one, and our claim is nothing more than a historically manufactured immoral lie, which purpose is inhumane, as it seats out to crunch a people and their will. It is a lot more than just that, this should be considered as a high criminal act of our uncontius rulling government, as one realises that the imact of our historic claim for Kosovo is not simply set and legalise our claim to keep the occupied territory, still within our own, but it set out to change the demography of the province. It is not important how this is done or in what time period it stretches, what we should all realise is that our policy preaches the extinction of the Albanian element which is the element of the province. This is why this is simply a crime. It is the same reason why Albanians arose wave by wave since the provinces occupation in 1912. And it’s also the very natural reason why the west and the international community supports the Albanian cause. Not because they have any problem with the Serbian people or Serbia. This is the reason also for Milosevic’s policy in Kosovo, and of all other governments, including the actual one. This is why people get confused today when they see that this government even it claims to be the opposite of Milosevic’s one, still has the same policy towards Kosovo, which in turn, let’s not forget why ended up in the current situation. Percisely due to its total resistance to the occupiers policy. So why is it that the Serbian people are being so blind today? Should we not demand by our government ones and for all to become democratic, recognise the need for accepting all the wrong doings in order for the nation to move on, so we can resolve our most important social, economical, political and development problems. This is insane, and we shall look to change this wrong way, and get sensible and real, as it is a real world we leave in, not a dream, myth or whatever they preach.
Well said.
If BS can be well said…
Claedy’s rambling, unintelligible load of false “facts” is completely ridiculous from beginning to end.
As a Serb I do not want to lose Kosova as we “lost” Montenegro, however, I also have the mental capacity to understand that being greedy does not necessarily coincide with being right. I completely Agree with what Claedy said, although it is a small blow to Serbia itself.
