Yugo becomes history… or not?

From the second half on November, the last Yugo and other Zastava car models will leave the assembly lane in the main factory in Kragujevac. Considering that it’s one of the cars with the same design for the past 20-30 years, this is a historic moment.

But! This will not be the end of this popular vehicle, many times winning the ‘ugly cars’ competitions around the world. Some African countries expressed interest in production technology and it is quite possible that they will continue the Yugo car saga. As usual, the readers comments on Serbian newspapers’ sites are hilarious:
“Poor African countries, they don’t know what they’re doing. They survived HIV, hunger, drought, wars, corrupt governments… but this will be the end of them.”
“Late Tito would be proud of this lucrative cooperation with our old friends, the non-aligned countries!”

Yugo is having sort of a world revival now (if it ever stopped being popular) – in the last few months it’s been a star in the movie Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist and the latest Metallica video, where it breaks down and causes trouble for two Iraqis driving around the desert in it:
