Russia + Ukraine = Cold Christmas in Serbia

by Viktor on January 7, 2009

Well, Christmas finally arrived. From our Orthodox colleagues in the East instead of the warm congrats comes a cold shower – Russia and Ukraine have gas issues and we have to pay for it – by freezing our butts off because the gas supply was cut off somewhere in Hungary. You can follow the situation on twitter as well, by checking out GasCrisis09 channel.

We don’t believe in backup plans here in Serbia so our other option is to use electricity to warm up, which means that the system could become unstable soon and that blackouts could come back to haunt us from the nineties.

Our third option, however, is to try and warm up a bit by watching these hot photos of Vladimir Putin and Yulia Tymoshenko:

I wish you a good christmas, and some warmth… or well I guess I should say: christ is born!

No serb here, but since I gained a very good serbian friend, I am getting more and more interested and you have just a superb writing style!

Thanks, Marc, keep dropping by!

I am not sure what the correct translation of “Hristos se rodi” greeting would be. We need to have something like an aorist tense somewhere in there. Maybe “Christ has been borneth!”

You forgot to mention that central heating plants that have the capability have switched to Mazut for fuel, and that heating in those areas (Belgrade and some other cities), is working just as normal. Hows that for a backup plan? :)

Well, I actually forgot to mention a lot of things here, as it’s just a short post. It’s true Belgrade and some other cities have been saved (temporarily?), but we don’t really have a backup plan for the whole country, that’s what’s messed up… :(

It’s Vladimir Beckham actually :)
I am getting complaints that ms Tymoshenko doesn’t really need the extra photoshop makeover, and I have to admit I agree.

In other news, couple of Kragujevac citizens have found a way to warm up:
