The Perfect Eurosong

I thought it would be cool if i did several entries about my favourite Yugoslav/Sefbian/Balkan bands that you’ve never heard of. Let’s start with Nista ali Logopedi, a monthypythonesque punk/rock/folk/grind metal band from Sabac, Serbia.

I remember buying Nista Ali Logopedi audio tape when i was still in primary school and then discovering that my cassette had a hand written sentence on the cover to make it sort of ‘unique’. Mine had a line saying ‘Odmotaj klupko zivota…’ with a ball of yarn drawn next to it. Talk about good marketing, huh? It still sticks in my mind as one of the coolest things concerning album covers ever.

I remember listening to the album titled ‘Ad Hoc Klica’ and songs with titles such as Stao sam na stone called crazy, Pigs from space, Jarmusch Jim Rap and Janjine with traditional Serbian folk accordion tunes perfectly blended with punk/core/metal rhythm guitars and lyrics that had to be written by insane people and i was thinking to myself: “Man, these people are insane.”

Anyway, the group felt apart several years later but the video you are about to see, from their next album, gained some notoriety because it was understood seriously by most TV stations, thus getting NAL banned from most of them.

Seeing it now makes me think how it’s a perfect candidate for a Serbian Eurosong contest representative: It’s catchy, sang in English, which is very trendy these days, has ethno motives all the way around and it mentions Serbia and Serbs more than once (in every lyric basically).
Here goes (disclaimer: the video contains some material that some people might not judge suitable for viewing by some people):

Heh heh. Those were the days.

But seriously I’ve been thinking. If anybody has some money to spare think about placing a bet on Serbia winning this years Eurovision. It does depend on a few factors but it could pay off.

I think the Serbian entry is currently 6th favourite in some European countries.

I’m betting that the world loves the opposite image to the one portrayed about Serbia during the 1990’s. And I’m betting that our traditional ‘enemies’ will also vote for us because they think it would be humiliating to have such a person of dubious orientation representing us. Zeljko Joksimovic was only the beginning with his metro, now we are moving a step further… Eurovision loves this kind of thing. On top of that the vote of the purists (if any actually watch) who like a good voice.

If Mladic is handed over before Eurosong it would be wise to place a bet on Marija.
