Mr Palin used his rather short stay in Belgrade to discuss politics with a local genius and a couple of beautiful girls – in a way, it is quite what you’d expect from a visit to Belgrade, come to think of it.

Man alive, Palin is such a creepy old pussy hound. A candlelit dinner by the fireplace with two local hot chicks one third his age….to discuss Serbian social politics of all things? Hilarious, embarrassing and sad at the same time! It’s like something out of a bored Western intellectual’s wet dream.
“Hey there, exotic Eastern European babes, wanna swing by my hotel room later? I’m over at Hyatt Regency and a little three-way would sure hit the spot before I leave for Bulgaria in the morning. I know you ladies have been through a lot of hardship in your young lives, but I promise you, there’s nothing hard about taking down this geezer’s expensive trousers. Well, come to think of it – hopefully something IS hard, but not to worry regardless, I keep a few Viagra pills handy just in case. I’ve always wanted to taste the Serb sandwich, I’ll bring the English sausage – it’s EU certified, you know. Euro-Atlantic integration is coming to Serbia, ladies”.
Next time on Around the World in 80 days – Michael Palin talks religion in a Sofia whorehouse.
It’s Michael Palin we’re talking about here. He’s practically the definition of nice.
I thought his stay was absurdly short but he was pretty sympathetic to the broad Serbian case.
Dont know who it was but somebody was complaining to the media about being misinterpreted / misquoted when talking on the prog. He criticised Palin for hoodwinking the affair. Havent seen any of it yet but think if there was anything done wrongly it was likely the cutting editor’s fault.
Ooooh, that’s interesting. More than a few scandals recently about British tv involving this kind of thing. You can’t even trust the phone ins on ‘Children in Need’ charity night.
I’m not sure what the motive would be. The Palin travologues are just relaxing Sunday night telly. Michael walks through beautiful countryside, has a glass of wine, chats with interesting locals- that kind of thing. Safe, middlebrow tv, pretty harmless though.
This series is based on the (reasonable enough) assumption that most viewers don’t know much about eastern europe and is supposed to edutainment of a kind. But its way too shallow to be of any real use to anyone.
I did not realise it was Tijana T he interviewed! Nice work T. The clip is a bit of a disappointment mind you. I sincerely wish I could have shown the old goat around.
“…the Serbs are well aware of the contradictions of their history and they’re also rather proud of them…”
Good if some are. Not enough are these days.
Miha’s comment is disgusting and insulting. Michael Palin is supposedly a very nice guy. He’s never said or done anything to deserve such nastiness, and he certainly doesn’t deserve to have his name dragged through the mud by a drip like you. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Veronica, you’ve just fed a troll.
