Time to take a short break from political hassle all around us and grab a bottle of beer. I must say i’m surprised by this test, mostly because i’m not a fan of “Jelen” but now i can’t really say anything against it, mostly because i trust the German sense for good beer. Here it is:
After the blind test conducted by the staff of German “Stern” magazine, Serbian “Jelen” beer ended up in second place, and it had some serious competition.
As a true patriot, i must honour our Rogonja with providing commentary for “Deer” beer’s way to the finals: Serbian favorite simply whooshed to the semi-finals, beating Heineken, Sagres and Elfenbeinkuste like they weren’t even there, then had some trouble beating Schweden, only to meet with the King of beers in the finals, and even than it was a close call with 3:4 votes going to Budvar (Budweiser).
Still, a great day for beer lovers, and officially our last good score at a competition as Serbien und Montenegro
– remember this championship next time you order local beer in Belgrade.

Cheers for “Jelena Rogonjic”.
I’ll go and get drunk to celebrate this great success. I can’t believe Jelen has beaten German and Belgian beers
See, I always maintained that Heineken had snob appeal, but Jelen had .. um .. actual good flavor. I’m glad the judges agreed with me.
Strava ti je blog.
Skuni Pen je car,sad ga gledam u Ciboni ali nije to to kad ne igrau Zvezdi
To lave
cenim to sto ima ljudi sa nase teritorije
koji pisu o desavanjima na nasim prostorima, samo napred svaka pohvala od mene
Is this test from the current magazine?
Yeah although I much prefer rakija maybe Jelen pivo is pretty good after all.
In fact I think rakija is the secret ingeredient that will allow Serbia (and other former Yug countries) to conquer the world – economically speaking of course.
Anonymous, i dont know if it’s the last issue, i think so. I found it on the web recently here. I don’t know who took the picture, but if your reading this, email me and i’ll credit you.
Bg anon,
Yeah, rakija’s for Balkanians kinda like the magic potion for the Asterix and Obelix
Cvijus, i hope you are ok after the celebration
Sport4ever, Giga,
hvala na pohvalama! navratite ponekad!
Daniel, i agree with you when it comes to Heiniken – it’s all about the packaging and the image for them (although Jelen could use some freshening up in that area)
Good lord! This is unbelievable. No, not that this beer I’ve never heard of, much less tasted, won second place, but that Budweiser won first. Man, that’s some awful stuff. The judges must have been sloshed by that point.
anonimous, note that it’s Czech Budweiser, not the American one. Huge difference.
Viktor,
The celebration still goes on, I mean this is a great event for every true patriot and beer-drinker.
Bg_Anon,
Rakija is not only a good brand that will promote our country, but from a more intristic view it warms the body-heart-soul.
Did you guys read about those unfortunate Slovenes and their food problem?
The guy was quoted as saying that as soon as he awoke in the morning he drank three rakijas and his ‘tummy troubles’ were gone.
Ahh Rakija the elixir of life!
I used to drink Yelen Pivo all the time in Srebrenica and Bratunac. It was cheap, came in a big bottle and tasted great cold.
I remember one day a shop owner knocking on my door asking me why I hadn’t brought back the old bottles to his store. He recycled them.
