Do you feel Laka?

I tricked both fauna and flora
With my favorite prank
That life did not begin in the sea
But of love

The coolest lyric in the whole Eurovision competition this year did not manage to get into the English translation of the song – Pokusaj by Elvir Lakovic Laka – the eccentric Bosnian representative. Laka will be singing in Bosnian so Bosnian speaking people (i.e. everybody from ex-Yu region) will luckily all get to enjoy this strange mixture – very clever lyrics in a very weird song and this blogger’s favorite.

Laka is not considered to be the only favorite this evening, he has some very strong competition and in that regard I believe that this will be one of the most exciting Eurosong finals lately. So what do we have to look forward to tonight?

In the funny acts not meant to be funny we have: Russian fellow Dima Bilan, one of those favorites, and frankly I don’t know why – the ice skater Plushenko, the violinist and himself look funny at best, all standing so close to each other trying to be sexy and gracious at 3 square feet of ice. Not working.

Dima showing some skills

The Azerbaijan first time ever ESC entry and they have a smash hit combination – scary angel, funny devil, hard rock, opera, half naked dancers and a pint of blood, all sung in English with a heavy accent – you gotta hand it to them – they really did take the Eurovision competition seriously.

Azarbaijan’s Elnur – can anybody actually top this entry?

Finnish have sent a heavy metal band again, but not a cool one – like Lordi, but a funny one – kinda like Pantera before they became cool. Come on Finland, you can do better than that.

Most participants from the trying to be funny category didn’t qualify for the finals – I guess they just weren’t funny enough. But, still, there are some leftovers such as Rodolfo from Spain, Pirates of the Sea from Latvia and, in some way, the Croatian Kraljevi Ulice & 75 Cents – Rodolfo may be the only favorite among this crowd.

Big competition also in the best babes category, but the Greek entry easily wins this one – Kalomoira must be the hottest babe ever to compete, and the plastic beauties from Ukraine, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Poland don’t really stand a chance here.

Kalomoira – the best thing coming from the EU right now (born in the USA)

I heard a lot about a good organization of the event, and the impressions from foreign visitors are all very positive, but we’ll talk about this after the finals.

Now, let me ask you this – who’s your favorite?

The chicken seemed very cool – I trust it hadn’t been pharmacologically abused.

Was the booing of Olta Boka politically orchestrated or just plain bigotry?

I must admit Bosnia is also my favourite. It’s great. I seriously hope it wins, but if it were to win, no doubt the moaners would be crying out about political voting regardless of the fact that the song is unique, different and fun.

I just don’t get what’s all the fuss about the Russian entry! It’s a pile of tripe.

I was at the semi-final and was also shocked by the boos for Albania. Sure, it’s a politically sensitive issue – but come on it’s Eurovision – no need to bring that here. It was enough people to make it noticeable but I was surrounded by Serbs who were quite shocked by the boos.

Laka – the only original song (apart from the French entry, maybe). They didnt belong there, though. I only watched because it took place in Belgrade, and couldnt believe all the crap I heard an saw. I’d rather have a dentist appointment next time around.

I asked around if there was any booing and whistling but my sources from the Arena told me there were only some kids that booed at Albania, too young to know why they are booing, they were probably guessing that it has to do something with Kosovo. So I’d say it was a rather insignificant bunch.

I hope so. Otherwise ins spite of all the daftness, from the little bits I saw it seemed to have been a bit of cheerfulness to offset some of the grim things happening in the world. But what about the chicken?
