Ok, back from the countryside and the idylic past, into the big dirty city, it’s present and what may be it’s future: here’s a great video-guide through Belgrade by Bruce Sterling. For those of you that maybe don’t know who Bruce is, he is the guy that popularized the term cyberpunk in modern sci-fi literature, so when he is talking about the future i assume he knows what he is talking about.

Lovely video and man
Yes, very cool video.
It took thirty phone calls to meet up on a street corner? That’s the future?
You remember a long time ago I suggested you do a Belgrade Photoblog? How about a Belgrade Videoblog? BeoTube? I’m sure you could manage something more lively than waffling from a notebook.
Gee, am I the only person who found Mr Sterling’s presentation kind of superficial and shallow?
I guess it depends. What came through to me was that Sterling really likes Belgrade and that’s why I liked his little film. Obviously it’s not a high budget film and not a lot of work went into it. It had a different purpose than appearing at cinemas — it was an introduction to Belgrade to be presented at some kind of meeting, wasn’t it? I suppose it’s possible that these days I am overly grateful for any kind remark about anywhere in Serbia because anti-Serbia propaganda is so rife.
Eric, it’s his first video-blog, give him some credit
but yes, it has been done in a hurry, that’s clear. For eight minutes it’s ok.
Owen, your demands are becoming harder and harder to meet
– i suppose that some day you will be able to see me/hear me, because obviously blogging is changing together with Belgrade, but not yet. Besides, didn’t Bruce say recently that the blogging in this form will disappear in ten years? Than we’ll have to switch to video blogs and podcasts anyway
Blackbird, it has been made for some kind of conference “future of the cities” or smt like that, and since Bruce has some good ideas about the future he was asked to make this about his current habitat – Belgrade (maybe mr Sterling is more famous in these areas as ‘the husband of Jasmina Tesanovic’ instead of ‘the guy who popularized cyberpunk’, hehe)
