Belgrade Maps

I already tweeted about the Belgrademaps project some time ago, but now I think it deserves a post of its own. This interactive Belgrade map is amazingly useful, not just to foreigners, but to locals as well. The reason why even locals get lost using public transportation system is because there isn’t an official map system good enough to let me know, for example, where one bus line starts and where it ends, and what’s it’s exact route. Thank goodness someone decided to fix this problem.

Funny thing is, when Jug Cerovic, the author of this project, decided to offer the maps for free to the official city public transportation management, they refused, even though they claimed his solution was well designed and usable. The official reason – the city doesn’t have enough money to print these, and besides, the official request for tender is already on. In the end they simply stopped answering his calls.

Good thing is, the Tourist Organization of Belgrade decided to accept the free offer and print tourist version of the public transport maps, so the visitors to the capital will be able to use the buses, trams and trolleys and hopefully not get lost.

Click here to visit the Belgrade map website and don’t forget to bookmark it for future reference, you will probably need it.

While their maps are great, their website interface is horrendous with its clicking on buttons to zoom in/out and move the map around instead of dragging the actual map with mouse pointer and using the scroll wheel to zoom in/out.

Every time I’ve gone to use it I got frustrated and quit, it is completely unusable.

  2. I’ve also found the “magic maps” sold at the tourist store on Knez Mihailova to be helpful. They show bus stops, but the exact routes aren’t always clear. They also have the most detailed street markings I’ve seen for a map that size.

    This is fantastic.

Hilarious that he was refused. Probably some sort of work-place territorialism. terrible. Serbia is it’s own worst enemy most of the time.

You don’t seem to have published anything about the Brice Taton sentences and Search doesn’t seem to find posts that far back.

I was in Europe on the day of the sentencing.

“Vesti”, a contemptible rag of hate-liturature masquerading as a newspaper printed by the Serbian diaspora in Europe had as a headline on it’s front page “DRACONIAN PUNISHMENT IN BELGRADE”

Sometimes it seems like Serbians (especially those living outside of Serbia who imagine themselves “REALLY SERBIAN”) are inherently sick, mentally ill.

There’s a whole segment of serbdom that completely narcissistic, only caring about it’s feelings vis-a-vis their ethnic identity.

It can be summed up like this:

“20 years for those young men? What about Kosovo!??”

That’s Serbian logic for you, these days, in a nutshell”

  6. Hello!!! Your website is an excellent informational website. I take advantage of reading it. Also you can find some maps at my website.

  7. [...] Belgraded.com pointed me to this new (to me) site with wonderful and useful interactive maps of Belgrade. [...]

Why aren’t these comments moderated? How is Taton and Kosovo related to this helpful and awesome article? I hate people that troll a site where someone offers FREE USEFUL INFORMATION.

Please remove mine and all other comments that are not related to the article. If you guys want to discuss levels of Serbian monstrosity, you will find plenty of forums where you can do so, and you will find a lot of people that agree with you. Please don’t spew this hatred propaganda here. Thank you.

  9. Doot says:

Who’s posted any hatred or propaganda?

I see some off-topic posts, yes, but propaganda?

Perhaps you don’t understand the meaning of that word. I’ll give you a hint – It’s not “a truth that makes me feel bad”

  10. Ana Marija says:

Milos, I was just about to say the same thing! This is a truly wonderful thing about the maps – really cool how young people have an amazing idea and offer it for free, rather than try to make money out of it. The maps are brilliant – Belgrade transport is a mystery most of the time but no longer!

I was just reflecting on that and then saw Doot’s comments about Serbian logic etc – and Doot’s response is just mean. Doot, you may think this kind of casual tarring of “Serbians” is not a problem, but these comments are not nice at all. More to the point, they are in a public forum where people come for tourist info on Belgrade.

    It’s just not cool.

  11. Doot says:

I was responding to Owen. Like you said “public forum”. Serbs tar themselves just fine, they don’t need anyone’s help.

    Why is my response “mean”?

Is it not “mean” that the Serbian writers of Vesti newspaper think it’s patriotic that someone killed that innocent frenchman?

Why get mad at me (the messenger)? Shouldn’t you be mad at the Serbs who write that kind of crap?

  12. Rather helpful cheers, I’m sure your trusty visitors may very well want way more posts such as this keep up the excellent hard work.
