Anti burial

update: the funeral WILL be held in Belgrade!

It seems that the family has now changed plans and that the funeral will be held in Moscow instead of Belgrade. This is not 100 percent certain yet, as it can turn out to be just a diversion to prevent demonstrations in Belgrade.

Speaking of which, here is the letter cruising around the net last couple of hours – so you can help spread the word.

“Anti burial” event planned to coincide with Mr Milosevic’s burial in Belgrade

It seems that there has been a consideration of Slobodan Milosevic’s burial in Belgrade since the Serbian Government’s leading coalition under Mr Vojislav Kostunica decided to make a compromise over Mr Milosevic’s burial place and meet the requests for security guarantees towards Mr Milosevic’s family members, as outlined by Mr Milosevic’s family through Mr Milosevic’s political party spokesman and his lawyer.

It has been said many times that Mr Kostunica, a hard line nationalist represents a fine successor to Mr Milosevic’s ideology, but in addition, it now seems to be obvious that Mr Kostunica has made himself the most cooperative will executor to the wishes of late Mr Milosevic’s political party as well as his family. That may be understandable to some extent, given the fact that his failure to comply with their requests may lead to Mr Kostunica’s coalition government losing majority in the government and therefore losing power altogether, should Mr Milosevic’s political party decide to pull out of a weak majority government coalition.

Expectedly, there’s been a response of a public outcry against such an idea of openly dealing and wheeling with the promoters of Mr Milosevic’s policies, those same policies that have caused the biggest tragedy for the Serbs and their Balkan neighbours in recent history.

Gathered from all walks of life, people who have spent the last two decades protesting against Milosevic’s dictatorship are determined not to allow for his burial to take place in the capital of Serbia. The spontaneous gathering of likeminded people who have opposed Milosevic while in power has been gaining a momentum on Serbia’s most visited website www.b92.net as of this Monday. Through suggestions and ideas expressed by individual users, the guiding idea has been born for a symbolic staging of an ‘Anti Burial’, the motive being to show the rest of Serbia, the Balkans and the world one last time that Milosevic was never really representing the free thinking, democratically oriented citizens of Serbia and therefore the Serbian government should not allow for Mr Milosevic’s burial to take place in Belgrade or his family members to return to Serbia while still being issued with the Interpol arrest warrant.

I agree totally with you, I really thing the best way to behave is just not to pay any attention… to make an anti burial manifestation will be like answering to the last provocation of Milosevic… it’s exactly what he is trying to push from his grave…
